Screw Conveyor

Consists of a shaft-mounted screw rotating in a trough. As the shaft
rotates, the material fed to it is moved forward by the thrust of the
screw or flights. The shaft and screw rotate along the longitudinal
axis of the U-Shaped trough. The material is fed into the trough
through one are more feed hoppers and is discharged at the end of the
trough through opening in the trough bottom. Discharge spouts are
fitted below the openings. Intermediate openings have gates that are
opened when discharge at points along the run is desired. Screw may be
right-hand. Left-hand, single, double or triple thread type. Screw is
generally made of stamped 4 to 8mm sheet steel sections and is welded
to the shaft. Screw can also be cold-rolled in one strip and can also
be cast integral with the shaft. Shaft may be solid or hollow. Design
of screw, shaft etc. is selected to suit the material to be conveyed.
